How do I automatically save Word 2007 documents in the Word 2003 format? (Back)
Word 2007 automatically saves documents with a (.DOCX) file extension, Word 2003 uses (.DOC). To view a 2007 Word Document in Word 2003, you must save it with the (.DOC) extension.
If you don't want to save all of your documents in the 2003 (.DOC) format you may choose to save individual documents in the 2003 format. To do so: Click on the Office Button in the upper left hand of Microsoft Word, rollover or select Save As and click 97-2003 Document. Otherwise, to automatically save all of your Word 2007 documents in the 2003 format, please use the tutorial below.
- Click on the Office Button in the upper left hand of Microsoft Word and click on Word Options
- In Word Options select the Save button on the left hand side.
- In the Save files in this format: dropdown, select Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc) and click Ok.
