Web Site Hosting

Why do 70% of U.S. Business Computer users think WEB sites are important?

Look at it this way: If you are ANYBUSINESS@ aol.com you will be able to receive email - but it makes your company look amateurish and small. With a domain name like "tiesthat bind.com" (assuming your business is selling neckties) you can have a Dan@tiesthatbind.com and a Mary@tiesthatbind.com and look professional and act like a larger entity. Domain names give you an opportunity to put your creative juices to work and choose a distinct, unique name that sizzles and sells.

We can help you secure a domain name and host it for you. Call us for a no-obligation proposal..

Beyond Vista

You have heard us opine to avoid Vista. Its memory requirements and incompatibilities with existing environments make it a poor choice for most users, especially those with extensive need for third-party programs. Now Microsoft announced that Windows 7 is expected to be released in the second half of 2009. Some industry experts believe that Microsoft is pushing Windows 7 because of slow Vista sales.

"Not-a-Virus" Virus

While this virus was originally detected in 2005, it is making a strong comeback. We have seen computers infected with variants of this hijacker. The "not-a-virus" virus takes over your browser and sends you to a web site to remove this virus. If you install their fix it makes matters much worse - so don't click on it!

If you believe you have been infected, please call us to professionally clean your hard drives before these insidious varmints affect your operations.

Timely Tips

A monthly pearl, this section of our Newsletter provides Microsoft Office users with useful tip to improve technique and increase efficiencies by reducing required keystrokes.

Microsoft Word Tip

Turn Off Adaptive Menus. By default, Microsoft Word uses adaptive menus that display only certain basic commands (as decided by Microsoft) and your most frequently used commands. After a pause of about two seconds or by pressing the double-caret (>>) at the bottom of the menu, Word expands the menu to show its full complement of commands.

Fortunately, you can easily turn adaptive menus off. Use the Tools->Customize command and switch to the Options tab on the dialog box that opens . Turn off the option that reads "Menus show recently used command first." Word will then show the entire menu every time you open it.

Patch Management

Keeping your computer up to date with critical patches from Microsoft is practical advice. Earlier this month Microsoft released TWO critical patches to address vulnerabilities in its operating system. The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to potentially compromise an affected system, without requiring any user interaction. If you have a "designated driver" in charge of your computer system, we're certain this is being done. But if you don't have one, or are not certain it is being done, please call us to do it for you.
