WARNING, WARNING, WARNING* - Internet Exploder (explorer) 7 Our apologies: With all the hype about how awful Internet Explorer 7 was, and all the emails we received about the potential problems with it, we did not send you a clear message about installing it. DO NOT INSTALL IT! It is considered a CRITICAL UPDATE by Microsoft, so it may install itself. If this happens to you: Go into Add/Remove Programs - and remove Windows Explorer 7. IE 6 should be usable after that. If you have Quickbooks - you will probably have to reinstall it after you remove IE7. Some other specialty software requires that you reinstall it as well. IE7 does not play well with others. * credit to the robot from Lost in Space Buy now - a new computer that is Last month we spoke about purchasing a computer for the holidays, and those of you who are have been getting nice deals. For the last few weeks we have been getting faster computers for $300-$400 less than two months ago. These lower prices are expected (but not guaranteed) to continue for another month. Microsoft's new operating system is called "Vista". To everyone who is reading this - STAY AWAY for now. There is a rule in purchasing computer software which says "Never purchase any software which is version X.0". So do not purchase software which is 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 - wait for 6.1, 7.1, 8.1, etc. By next summer there should be a patch for Vista and most software should be compatible. Again, don't expect any older versions of Quickbooks to work with Vista. You will need to upgrade to 2006 or 2007 to work with Vista. ** Apologies to Governor Schwarzenegger Spam, Spam, Spam and more Spam Monte Python where are you when we need you? Wow. There are people somewhere in this world that really have nothing better to do than write programs to send THOUSANDS of SPAM messages. There are several levels of defense, but the best we have seen is the external spam filter we spoke about in our July issue (click here).
